Panagarh-Palsit and Durgapur Expressways
India (2002 - 2005)
The Panagarh-Palsit and Durgapur Expressways, which form part of West Bengal’s National Highway 2, were the first of Gamuda’s foray into the international civil infrastructure market. The colossal task involved the upgrading and building of a combined length of almost 130km of roads on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.
As the BOT contractor for the project, the scope of works was wide and varied, including the design, supervision and construction of the entire project that comprised the development of service roads, bridges, interchanges, numerous underpasses and overpasses, culverts, a maintenance yard, bus shelters, toll plaza and toll booths.
Works for the new expressways were conducted alongside the old road, much of which traversed through densely populated areas in the cities.
Upon completion, Gamuda operates and maintains the expressways under a 15-year concession period on annuity basis with the National Highways Authority of India.
