Cable Stayed Bridge

CABLE STAYED BRIDGE, DAMANSARA-PUCHONG HIGHWAY

The LDP Cable Stayed Bridge at Persekutuan Interchange crossing the Federal Highway is the first Cable Stayed Land Bridge in Malaysia. The bridge stands out as an aesthetically pleasing and unique design in a highway project in the country.

The design and construction methods of the bridge allowed for the necessary traffic management required

at the construction site; a normal bridge design would have required for the removal of 2 traffic lanes to accomodate the construction of the piers.

The bridge is a two-pylon system rising to a height of 34m spaced at 85m apart. The main span is 85m while the tie back spans are 35m each. The deck is a composite system of reinforced concrete slab 250mm with steel diaphragm beams and two edge beams that are post-tensioned. The stats are arranged in two parrarel planes, which provides stability eccentric loading of the the deck. The total width of the deck is 18cm.

The back spans are connected to the main approach bridge on a transition pier and stressed downwards with pre-stress bars to encounter the uplift forces.
