Quantity Surveying
Apprenticeship Programme
Recognising the importance of Quantity Surveying
(QS) in the construction industry, Gamuda has
taken the initiative to develop a QS apprenticeship
programme to train and provide career opportunities
for school-leavers.
The objective of the programme is to provide
trainees with knowledge of quantity surveying
based on the academic requirement of the universities
and the professional-practical requirements
of the industry.
The programme covers all pertinent areas within
the discipline, including Engineering Drawing,
Mathematics for QS, Quantity Surveying, etc.,
as a preparation for the various job functions.
Trainees receive on-the-job experience by assisting
Senior Quantity Surveyors in their day-to-day
operations.
Trainees undergo a 3-year part time diploma
program, consisting of 7 semesters. They receive
a monthly allowance of RM850.
The Diploma in Quantity Surveying is issued
based on class test (20%), a project assignment
(20%) and an examination (60%).
Upon graduation, trainees can gain admission
into a degree programme in either local or foreign
universities, or sit for the ISM intermediate
examination for professional qualification after
completing a few years of working experience.
Trainees may also opt for permanent employment
with Gamuda.
Gamuda selects trainees based on the following
requirements:
- They have SPM with at least C6 in Mathematics
and English.
- They are committed to, and have strong interest
in, the construction field.
- They are ready and willing to enter into
an apprenticeship agreement with the company
for 3 years.
Since May 1995, Gamuda has sponsored 78 trainees
under this programme, with a total investment
of RM3.1 million.
66 trainees have graduated and been offered
permanent employment. 5 chose to pursue a degree
programme overseas after completion of their
diploma.
