GAMUDA COMMITTED TOWARDS EMPOWERING HUMAN CAPITAL

In a ceremony held today, 20 deserving Malaysian undergraduates were awarded Gamuda Scholarship to undertake their studies in top local public and private universities as well as top international universities.

The Gamuda Scholarship which is now in its 13th year running has directly benefited the lives of over 230 Malaysian scholars to pursue higher learning since it first started in 1996, of which 130 are at degree level and the remaining were at diploma level.

This year’s scholarship awards amounted to RM2 million, which brought the total amount of scholarships given out to-date in excess of RM15 million.

The yearly scholarship application, which followed a series of in-house and external reviews, received an overwhelming response with close to 400 applications that were received within two weeks of the opening date.

“This year, we have set aside a substantial amount of RM2 million for the annual scholarship. On behalf of the group, we are honored to be able to assist deserving Malaysians in their pursuit of higher education”, said Mr Ng Kee Leen, Executive Director of Gamuda Berhad.

Mr Ng added that apart from the yearly scholarship, the Gamuda Group through its associate companies is dedicated towards assisting the Malaysian community with quality education through Litrak Scholarship, SPLASH scholarship and increasing the construction industry’s skill training through the Gamuda Plant Operator School.

Apart from the increase in awards that were given, Gamuda has also included three new local institutions to its list of academic institutions. This year’s annual scholarship saw students accept university placements in Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, and Kuala Lumpur Infrastructure University College.

Of the 20 scholars, 15 will pursue degrees in local public universities, three in local private universities and two in foreign universities, with added priority given to students who have chosen courses that are from the engineering fraternity.

Mr Ng added that, “Gamuda is steadfast in addressing the need of increasing human capital in the construction industry and through its initiative, the Gamuda Plant Operator School, the Group has to-date trained up to 25,000 trainees in various construction fields where many have accepted offers in booming economies such as the Middle East, Eastern Europe countries, Vietnam, and other South East Asian countries”.

Gamuda’s Director, YAM Raja Dato’ Seri Eleena Azlan Shah presented the Gamuda scholarship awards to recipients.
